In 2019, this Integrity Unit became available to the residents of the Broward County area. I then, on February 18, 2020, completed the necessary application and submitted it on behalf of Ernesto. See: Conviction Review Unit Petition For Conviction Review.
Almost immediately, on February 21, 2020, I received a letter of acknowledgment from the Conviction Review Unit. See: Letter of Acknowledgement (uploading in progress…). However, after several months of waiting to see if Ernesto’s case would qualify for their review. The Broward Prosecutor’s Integrity Unit declined to review his case based on the fact that Ernesto was having “pending litigation” within the Court. Therefore, because Ernesto has currently pending Motions within the Court which have not been resolved yet. The Broward Prosecutor’s Integrity Unit cannot proceed with their Investigation of the case. Thus, as soon as these litigations culminate, I will be refiling this Petition again.
