Dear family, friends and supporters,
I took the time to read each and everyone of the messages I received during the time I was fighting COVID-19 at the Hospital, in September 2021. I was able to perceive everyone’s sincere concern about my well being. Therefore, here is my message to each one of you. After all, this is the only thank you I can give you at this time. But it is extremely important that each and everyone of you could understand that your concerns together with your prayers, fasting, phone calls, text messages and the like made the necessary difference in the physical and spiritual realm to save my life.
For this reason, we all need to get more into this togetherness. Now is the time to get all of us more serious about caring for one another and demonstrate love and compassion to those in need, as I received from each one of you and from total strangers that crossed my path in a time of need and support. For example, the nurses at the Institution and the Correctional Officers who rescued me in my Dorm; the Correctional Officers who transported me and guarded me for the twelve days I stayed at the Hospital; the ambulance/rescue people who drove me and stabilized me in the way to the Hospital; the Doctors and nurses who were attending me while at the Hospital and all those other people who in one way or another crossed my path and influenced me, impacted me and encouraged me in some positive way to keep on living.
I am overwhelmed by the unquestionable strength and character of yours. Like many other family members, friends and supporters on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, you will be encouraged by the sincere words I am sharing with you. The messages of gratitude, acts of generosity and words of encouragement were powerful affirmations for me during this experience at the Hospital, as well as for all those dedicated family members, friends and supporters! For you and me, this positive energy that has been created has a direct correlation to excellence in how we, as family, friends and supporters will be reacting to those unknown situations and feelings that we are confronting every day that goes by. The strength of our family, friends and supporters circles, our prayers and fasting, together with our everyday support is needed as we continue to battle COVID-19 in what I know will be a physical and spiritual long-term fight.
So much has changed in the last two years – the world around us, our neighborhoods, gathering spaces, the places we work and call home. Life in the midst of COVID-19 has sparked fear, frustration and anxiety all around. It is easy for distractions, criticism and stress to creep in. There will be an appropriate time to debrief, to look carefully at all aspects of this pandemic, to learn and rethink our approaches. But now, more than ever, we must focus all of our energy on defeating this pandemic and the challenges associated with it. Nothing is more important than ensuring the health and safety of our family members, friends, supporters and our community.
During this unprecedented time, many of us Christians, are looking to God, to provide us with the exceptional and compassionate love and care we need. However, that is why we are here, family, friends, supported and community. We are here to encourage one another in a positive way during the difficult times we are all going through during this COVID-19. In everything we do and with every decision we make, this should be our absolute goal.
Please know that we as Christians have every resource we need to fight this fight in the Bible. The Word of God reveals to us everything we need to know to maintain our focus on Jesus while responding to this pandemic, while continuing to care for all of our loved ones. We are relying on our faith and certainty that God is in control of this inexplicable situation. We must maintain actively sharing information and learning from other individuals in our same conditions. Through collaboration and ingenuity, but always trusting God, we are well positioned to confront COVID-19.
I recognize that staying at home and at a distance from each other is disruptive, but necessary, and in the best interest of the many members of our families, friends and community who have taken this order to heart. Everyone, at every age, plays an important role in stopping the spread of this infection.
As individuals of faith, we should be hopeful that sometime during the coming months, we will look at this difficult time as something “from the past.” When we do, it will be with immense gratitude and pride in how we individually and collectively reacted during this pandemic.
In the meantime, please continue to be careful and observe physical distancing. Consume extra medical supplies if you have them. Defer or delay routine care so medical professionals can focus on the most urgent needs of the community, like those infected with COVID 19, DELTA VARIANT OR OMICRON. Support Christian groups or organizations or our own family members, friends and/or supporters, who are still in vital need of encouragement and physical and spiritual support while we battle this pandemic together.
Dear reader, thank you for taking the time and effort to read this message. It means a lot to me. Together, we will get through this by faith, under one spirit and by the Almighty power of our Lord Jesuschrist!
With sincere gratitude, Ernesto!
PS: I dedícate this page to my sister-in-law Rosaura Behrens, who passed away last April 11, 2021 and to the many people who did not survive the fight against COVID 19, but in one way or another, directly inspired me in fighting it back!
